PORT OF TRIESTE: 38,581,187 TONS FROM JANUARY TO NOVEMBER 1996
The port has recorded an increase of 10.55% as gainst the same period of 1995

In November the Port of Trieste showed a good trend in container traffic with 16,197 teu handled. From January to November 1996, including both loading and discharge operations, the total number of teu was 162,206 (+17.30%) with 1,212,336 tons.
Since the beginning of the year the commercial port has recorded an increase of 16.56% with 8,548,299 tons handled as against the 7,333,691 tons of the same period of 1995.
The trend of the individual sectors are as follows:

In the Customs Port (Stazione Marittima) the ferry traffic to and from Greece shows an increase of 28.28% of passengers in transit, 48.27% of trucks, 27.01% of passenger's cars and 47.75% of transported goods.
In industrial traffic an 8.74% increment was recorded in the period considered. The activity of the ironworks Ferriera di Servola was favourable (1,409.530 tons in 1996 as against the 499,760 tons of the first eleven months of 1956). The SIOT terminal with 27,564,663 tons increased by 6.48% the amounts of raw mineral oils discharged in 1995, aiming at exceeding the 30 million tons threshold of 1996. The activity of Canale di Zaule is following a downward trend, handling 621,738 tons in the same period.

From January to November 1996 the Port of Trieste handled a total of 38,581,187 tons, compared with the 34,899,683 tons of the same period of 1995 with a +10.55% increase.
