Agreement in order to produce energy from the algae for the port of Venice



This morning an agreement for the realization of the project has been undersigned pilot on industrial scale for the production of electric power from the algae of the Venetian lagoon. They have signed Venetian Agriculture, the company of the Region Venetian for the fields agricultural, forest agricultural and food-, eNave Srl, society of scope participated to 51% from APV Spa Investments (controlled of the Harbour Authority of Venice) and to 49% from Enalg Spa, and with the participation of the same Enalg, detentrice society of the industrial patent.

Venetian Agriculture has given own availability to experimentally install for five years near own site of experimental aquaculture to Pellestrina (Venice) the pilot plant for the creation of biocombustibili (Blue Petroleum) useful to the production of electric power and/or usable for destined engines to boats and motoveicoli. The system, than in its reduced version will be able to produce 0,5 MW of energy, will have to be tested in lagoon in order to estimate the yield of undermines central in the arc of the year based on the Venetian climate. Once experimented it convinces it reproductive of the algae - therefore the manufacturing capacity of energy - will be proceeded to the dimensioning of real headquarters to biomasses. The system, once extended - it has explained the Harbour Authority of Venice - it is able to supply all tomorrow the necessary energy for the requirements of the port.

"The objective - the president of the harbour agency has said, Paolo Costa - is to realize headquarters of about 40/50 megawatt. The port of Venice today consumes about seven megawatt, this project allows us, united to the projects legacies to the other renewable sources between which it detaches cold ironing (the electrification of the docks from earth), to forward make a great step towards the energetic self-sufficiency of the port of Venice also in relation the future projects of development".

The understanding previews also the start of the search and the development of technologies in the field of the bioenergies. In particular Venetian Agriculture will be able to experiment if it leave of the produced biomass can be employed as integrator of feeds in the production of molluscs and itticola. The agreement previews moreover the collaboration between Enalg and Veneto Agriculture for the creation of a Center of reference of Algology and Fotosintetiche Biotechnologies and to so develop on the territory professional competences in the field and, at the same time, to carry out activity of industrial search and pre-competitive development in the field of renewable energies.
