Ports Lonrho Ltd., a company wholly controlled by the British group Lonrho, has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Government of Ghana to build and operate a new oil port in the African nation.
The grant has a duration of 25 years renewable for further 25 years. Under the agreement, Lonrho Ports within 12 months and conduct a study and environmental impact of the new airport project, which will be built on an area of 2,000 acres, starting with an initial phase limited to 200 acres.
The port will be built near the Jubilee oil field, which is located seven miles from the coast of Ghana and about 59 miles southwest of the port of Takoradi.
