The company shipbuilding Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering (MMHE), which is fully controlled by Malaysian shipping company MISC, will acquire a shipyard in Pasir Gudang for 393.5 million ringgit in cash (131 million U.S. dollars). The plant will be sold by Sime Darby Engineering (SDE), a subsidiary of Sime Darby Berhad Malaysia.
The acquisition agreement provides for an expansion of the area occupied by the shipyard that will rise from 372 to 488 acres with a considerable expansion of production capacity currently amounts to 69,700 tons per year.
In addition, the Petronas Assets, a company wholly controlled by the Malaysian oil company Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas), which in turn is a shareholder in MISC, has signed an agreement to buy the other shipyard in the SDE, which is located in Teluk Ramune . This facility will pass from hand to 296 million ringgit (99 million dollars).
