Panalpina closes budget 2012 in loss



In the 2012 logistic group Panalpina it is incurred in Swiss a net loss of 70,2 million franchi respect to a profit of 127,4 million franchi clearly Swiss in the exercise anniversary precedence. The revenues are increased of 1.8% attesting itself 6,6 billion franchi Swiss, while the EBITDA is dropped of 82.8% to 36,5 million franchi Swiss. The EBIT has been of Swiss sign negative for 37,4 million franchi respect to an operating profit of 174,2 million franchi Swiss in 2011.

Last year the volumes enlivened from the Helvetic logistic group for aerial way have been pairs to 801.000 tons, with a bending of 6% on the 2011, while those enlivened for marine way have been 1.388.000 pairs to container teu, in increase of 6% on the year precedence.

The managing director of Panalpina, Monika Ribar, has manifested disappointment for the results recorded from the group in 2012: "we are not successful - it has explained - to compensate the rest in the field of the aerial transport. In the field of marine shipments and in the field of the logistics we have remarkablly widened our activity in spite of a slow down of the increase of the market, but this has evidently not been sufficient. Sul forehead of the costs we have not reacted enough timely".

In the 2012 air shipment activity operated by Panalpina have recorded a groos profit of 627 million franchi Swiss on revenues for 3,1 billion franchi Swiss, with bendings respective of 8.9% and 5.3% on the year precedence. In the segment of marine shipments the group has totaled a groos profit of 460 million franchi Swiss on revenues for 2,6 billion franchi Swiss, with increments respective of 4.8% and 13.0% on 2011. The generated groos profit from the field of the logistics has grown of 8.0% to 378 million franchi Swiss, while the revenues are diminished of 1.0% to 896 million franchi Swiss.

In the solo fourth trimester of the 2012 group has recorded a net loss of 51,2 million franchi Swiss on Swiss revenues for 1,7 billion franchi respect to a profit clearly of 28,8 million franchi Swiss on revenues for 1,6 billion franchi Swiss in the last trimester of 2011. The EBITDA has been Swiss pairs to 9,5 million franchi (- 80.4%) and the Swiss EBIT has been negative for 32,3 million franchi respect to Swiss a positive EBIT for 38,7 million franchi in the period October-December of 2011.

With respect to the course of the activity in the year in course, Monika Ribar has evidenced that "the situation of the market will continue to being difficult and volatil and - he has added - is therefore very prudent about the forecasts for 2013. We will have to be extremely policemen for being able to assume the necessary actions quickly. We have already introduced an important series stiff measures to reduce the costs and to improve our operating margins. Given to our elevated exposure regarding cyclical fields and the tendency to a shipment decrease in some producing categories of - it has specified - we are also reexamining critically our pocketbook of customers in the field of air shipments. In the field of marine shipments we will continue the positive increase".
