In the last quarter of 2021, the resumption of traffic in the ports of Genoa and Savona-Vado has subsided

If the data of the traffic enlivened in the whole of 2021 by the ports managed by the Port System Authority of the Ligurian Sea Western is +10.3% higher than the previous year, on the other hand, it is -5.3% lower than the pre-pandemic year of 2019. In particular, in 2021 the two Ligurian ports handled 40.5 million tonnes of miscellaneous goods, with increases respectively +9.0% and +0.1% on 2020 and 2019, of which 25.7 million tons of containerized goods (respectively +7.1% and +1.9%) and 14.8 million tons of conventional goods (+12.4% and -2,8%). Solid bulk amounted to 2.5 million tonnes (+16.5% and -19.0%) to which are added 2.0 million tons of other solid bulk in the industrial function (+49.3% and +1.4%). The liquid bulk traffic was found to consist of 17.8 million tons of mineral oils (+11.5% and -14.1%) and 866 thousand tons of other cargoes (+9.4% and -1.3%). The number of supplies of bunkers and ship's stores which have been attested to 798 thousand tons (-22.5% and -17.7%).

In the fourth quarter of 2021 alone, the ports of Genoa and Savona-Vado Ligure have enlivened globally almost 16.0 million of tons of goods, with an increase of +3.4% on the same period of 2020 and a contraction of -2.0% on the corresponding 2019 period, of which 11.9 million tons handled from the port of call of the Ligurian capital (+2.5% and -6.9%) and 3.9% million tons from the port of Savona-Vado (+3.1% and +13.1%).

With regard to the port of Genoa alone, in 2021 the port of call handled 49.6 million tons of cargo, an increase +9.9% on the previous year and a decrease of -7.6% on 2019. Miscellaneous goods alone amounted to 33.1 million tonnes (+5.2% and -5.1%), of which 23.1 million tons of goods in containers (+2.8% and -6.5%) totalled with a handling of containers equal to less than 2.6 million teu (+8.7% and -2.2%) and 10.0 million tons of conventional goods (+11.2% and -1.7%). The solid bulk in the commercial sector amounted to 761 thousand tons (+28.1% and +20.8%) and in the industrial function at 2.0 million tons (+49.2% and +1.4%). Oil trafficking minerals has been of 12,3 million tons (+21.8% and -15.5%) and that of other liquid bulk of 759 thousand tons (+6.0% and -7.1%), including 453 thousand tons of chemical products (-2.8% and -15.6%) and 306 thousand tons of vegetable oils and wine (+22.4% and +9.3%). Supplies of fuels and ship's stores shall be were equal to 746 thousand tons (-22.9% and -17.1%). Last year the Passenger traffic in the port of Genoa was almost 2.1 million people (+55.7% and -41.3%), of which over 1.6 million of ferry passengers (+38.0% and -24.0%) and 416 thousand cruise passengers (+217.6% and -69.1%).

In the fourth quarter of 2021 alone, the port of Genoa handled 12.0 million tons of goods, with a increase of +3.4% on the corresponding period of the year previous and a decrease of -6.1% on the period October-December of 2019. With 7.9 million tons, miscellaneous goods resulted in decrease (-3.7% and -6.2%) due to the reduction in traffic containerized which amounted to 5.4 million tons (-7.6% and -9.5%) and was made with a handling of containers equal to 586 thousand teu (-7.0% and -7.4%), while the goods conventional rose to 2.5 million tons (+5.8% and +1,8%). The solid commercial bulk were 178 thousand (-16.4% and +15.0%) and industrial 480 thousand (+38.0% and +61.1%). The volume of mineral oil traffic amounted to 3.1 million tons (+25.0% and -12.5%) and that of other liquid bulk to 209 thousand tons (+5.1% and +4.1%), of which 111 thousand tons of chemicals (-13.8% and -6.1%) and 97 thousand tons of oils vegetables and wine (+40.6% and +19.0%). In the period October-December last year the passengers were 392 thousand (+171.3% and -32.5%), of which 208 thousand in the ferry sector (+66.6% and -8.8%) and 184 thousand in that of cruises (+835.2% and -47.8%).

In the whole of 2021 the only port of Savona-Vado Ligure has handled a total of 14.8 million tons of goods, with increases of +11.8% and +3.2% respectively on 2020 and 2019. In the segment of various goods, traffic was 7.4 million tons (+29.7% and +32.4%), of which 2.6 million tons of goods in container (+70.0% and +387.7%) with a handling of containers equal to 223 thousand teu (+52.8% and 309.3%), 4.1 million tons of rolling stock (+16.3% and -4.4%), 366 thousand tons of fruit (-5.1% and -8.3%), 185 thousand tons of steels (+145.3% and +20.9%) and 162 thousand tons of forest products (-19.5% and -27.6%). Liquid bulk decreased with less than 5.7 million tons (-5.4% and -10.1%), including 5.2 million tons tons of crude oil (-3.3% and -11.6%), 342 thousand tons of refined petroleum products (-34.3% and +1.3%) and 107 thousand tons of other liquid cargoes (+42.1% and +77.5%). In the sector of dry bulk the global figure was almost 1.8 million tons (+12.2% and -29.1%), of which 732 thousand tons of coal (+9.8% and -4.8%), 248 thousand tons of cereals and seeds oilseeds (-21.4% and -49.3%), 155 thousand tons of minerals (+70.6% and +50.5%) and 625 thousand tons of other solid bulk (+26.1% and -44,3%). In 2021 passenger traffic was 394 thousand people (+77.8% and -61.7%), of which 219 thousand passengers of the ferries (+58.5% and -29.4%) and 175 thousand cruise passengers (+131.6% and -73,8%).

In the last quarter of 2021 alone, the port of Savona-Vado Ligure has enlivened a total of almost 3.9 million tons of cargo, with increases of +2.9% and +12.9% respectively on the same periods of 2020 and 2019. In the miscellaneous goods sector traffic has been of 1,8 million tons (+6.5% and +31.5%), of which 681 thousand tons of containerized goods (+31.1% and +351.3%), 980 thousand tons of rolling stock (-3.1% and -8.8%), 88 thousand tons of fruit (-4.3% and -3.8%), 32 thousand tons of steels (+14.0% and +46.4%) and 31 thousand tons of forest products (-40.7% and -21.8%). Liquid bulk with more than 1.6 million tons (+4.3% and +0.9%), including 1.5 million tons tons of crude oil (+3.4% and -1.6%), 86 thousand tons of refined petroleum products (-3.1% and +22.7%) and 43 thousand tons of other loads (+91.6% and +119.8%). In reduction, however, the solid bulk with 426 thousand tons (-13.8% and -0.8%), of which 182 thousand tons of coal (+20.6% and -10.7%), 76 thousand tons of minerals (+271.7% and +242.2%), 57 thousand tons of cereals and seeds oily (-31.9% and -40.3%) and 111 thousand tons of other bulk solid (-30.8% and +2.9%). In the passenger segment, ferries was 20 thousand people (+2,802.6% and +18.2%) and that of cruises of 77 thousand people (+971.4% and -59.4%).
