As a result of decreases in the volume of goods handled
on the quays in the past months of July, August and even September
-15.1%, -18.1% and -5.1% respectively compared to the same months of 2022,
the port of Barcelona closed the entire third quarter
of 2023 with a -13.1% reduction in loads handled
amounted to almost 15.0 million tonnes compared to
17.2 million tonnes in the corresponding period last year,
year. In the period July-September of this year, the only miscellaneous goods
fell by -13.5% to 11.2 million tonnes,
of which 8.3 million tonnes of containerised goods (-17.2%)
made with a container handling of 837 thousand TEUs
(-10.5%) - including 499 thousand import-export TEUs (-3.4%) and 338 thousand
TEU in transit (-19.3%) - and 2.9 million tons of goods
(-0.9%). Liquid bulk cargo is also down
amounted to 2.9 million tonnes (-15.4%), of which 2.1 million tonnes
tons of hydrocarbons (-18.4%) and 720 thousand tons of other
loads (-4.7%). Dry bulk, on the other hand, increased by +1.4%
having totaled 937 thousand tons.
In the passenger sector, traffic was 2.1
million people (+15.9%), of which almost 1.3 million cruise passengers
(+29.2%) and 826 thousand ferry passengers (-0.3%).
In the first nine months of 2023, the Catalan port has moved
46.7 million tonnes, down by
-11.3% compared to the same period last year. The only
container traffic amounted to more than 2.4 million
TEUs (-10.8%), of which 1.5 million TEUs in import-export (-2.2%) and
970 thousand TEUs in transit (-21.3%).
