
The Saudi National Authority of Mawani Ports announced
today the start-up, in collaboration with the terminal group DP World
of Dubai, the expansion works of the Jeddah container terminal
South Container Terminal (JSCT) of the Port of Jeddah which is
operated by the Emirati group. The project involves an investment
of three billion riyals ($800 million) and will allow
to significantly increase traffic capacity
annual containerized capacity of the port terminal, raising it from 1.8
million to four million TEUs. In addition, the project includes
the purchase of new equipment including new ship-to-shore cranes that
by the end of 2025 they will rise from 14 to 17 units.
At the same time, DP World is also investing in the creation of
a logistics area in Jeddah that will occupy an area of
415 thousand square meters which is expected to become operational in the
second quarter of next year.
