  • L'ESPO réclame la transparence des aides publiques
    Après les opérateurs privés de terminaux portuaires (FEPORT), les ports maritimes européens (ESPO) et les armateurs de l'UE (ECSA) viennent à leur tour de réagir à la publication du Livre vert sur les ports et infrastructures maritimes. L'accueil est largement favorable, les deux organisations affirmant trouver dans le document élaboré par les services du commissaire Neil Kinnock un exposé des défis auxquels est confrontée l'industrie portuaire européenne, dont elles soulignent l'importance cruciale pour l'UE. L'ESPO insiste tout particulièrement sur la nécessaire transparence des aides publiques, l'ECSA (voir cadre) met en exergue le besoin d'efficacité et d'une concurrence libre et loyale entre ports.
  • Le groupe Frans Maas augmente son bénéfice de 23%
    Le groupe néerlandais d'expédition et de logistique Koninklijke Frans Maas a noté l'an dernier un bénéfice net de 30,1 millions de NLG, chiffre en progression de 23%. Le résultat opérationnel est passé de 51,5 à 56,1 mio. de NLG, tandis que le chiffre d'affaires net a augmenté de 8% pour atteindre 1,3 milliard de NLG. La division expédition contribue pour 80% au chiffre d'affaires. La division logistique a généré un CA de 200 millions de NLG, en hausse de 20%.
  • L'UE divisée sur l'Eurovignette et l'accord de transit avec les Suisses
    Le conseil européen des ministres du Transport se penchera entre autres sur le projet d'accord sur le transit routier par la Suisse mardi prochain à Bruxelles. Cet accord a récemment été conclu entre la Commission européenne et le grouvernement suisse. La hausse du prix de l'Eurovignette, qui est liée au dossier du transit, sera également abordée.
  • Le "Grande Europa" introduit Grimaldi sur la scène du cabotage européen
    Ce samedi à Salerne a lieu le baptême et la livraison du roulier multi-purpose "Grande Europa", construit par le chantier naval Fincantieri pour compte de l'armement Grimaldi Naples. Il s'agit de la première unité d'une série de trois navires d'une nouvelle génération (18.700 t.dw. - capacité combinée 2.500 voitures + 2.000 m linéaires pour breakbulk + 300 TEU - vitesse 21 noeuds), qui doivent permettre à l'armement de donner non seulement une nouvelle dimension à son service régulier Scandinavie-Europe-Méditerranée, mais aussi une nouvelle impulsion. L'objectif est de combiner la formule de ligne régulière à un certain concept de cabotage intra-européen(1).

  • Eight groups vie for Sydney rights
    Eight groups, including Australia's newest air cargo terminal operator BOC Cargo Services, will fight for the right to develop international air cargo terminal facilities at Sydney's FAC-owned Kingsford Smith Airport.
    Airport management did not give details of the tender, or announce the winning tender, however an airport spokeswoman said an announcement would be made "by the end of the year."
  • Rumors canvas 'reform' options
    Rumors were flying thick and fast on the waterfront over the weekend, among them one rumour that Patrick will this week move to dismiss its Sydney workforce.
    Although the suggestion was denied by Patrick director Bill Clayton a comment appeared in News Limited newspapers on Friday quoting a Webb Dock trainee's reference to the possibility of joining "Patrick's new non-union workforce."
  • Name-calling' finds new targets
    Sydney Ports Corporation boss Greg Martin has rejected claims made recently by Patrick and Federal Minister for Workplace Relations Peter Reith that Port Botany is the "worst port in the world".
    Mr Martin used the government's own Bureau of Transport Communication Economics figures to show that Sydney is ranked second in Australia only to Adelaide in terms of the most important indicator relevant to vessel turn-around time - the net rate of container per hour.
  • Sydney appoints Singapore reps
    Sydney Ports Corporation has appointed its first overseas trade representative, the Singapore-based Piers Resources & Services Pte Ltd.
    SPC business development manager Andrew Gibson said the corporation will be aggressively selling to south-east Asian markets the competitive advantages offered by shipping into Port Botany and Sydney Harbor.
  • Kembla rail link contract signed
    Port Kembla Port Corporation hopes to boost annual trade through its southern NSW port by 500,000 tonnes through a $4 million twin-track rail spur scheduled to be operational by mid-1998.
    The corporation announced last week it had signed a contract with the NSW Rail Services Authority for a 1.5 km line to connect the main southern line in NSW to the port Kembla Multi Purpose berth, linking Illawarra region to the Murray, Murrumbidgee and Central West.
