Constatant que l'on est passé d'une société de production à une société de consommation, plusieurs intervenants ont observé que cette mutation a fait en sorte que le consommateur est devenu plus exigeant en matière de qualité, de flexibilité et de ponctualité à l'égard des producteurs et, par ricochet, à l'égard des transporteurs. Ceci peut mener, dans l'état actuel du marché (caractérisé par un déséquilibre de l'offre et de la demande), à des abus. "Non, le client n'est pas toujours roi. Il faut parfois oser dire non. Il y a des limites", a indiqué un consultant en transport dans la salle.
  • L'UE refuse de payer l'entretien de toute l'infrastructure routière suisse
    Comme prévu, les ministres européens du Transport n'ont pas approuvé le projet d'accord concernant le transit routier par la Suisse. Tous les Etats membres sans exception doutent de la justesse du relevé présenté par la Suisse au commissaire européen aux Transports Neil Kinnock sur les coûts d'entretien annuels de l'infrastructure routière, sur laquelle est basée la proposition d'un péage de 200 ECU par trajet pour les poids lourds de 40 tonnes. L'UE réclame des chiffres objectifs.
  • Sabena poursuit l'assainissement de ses comptes
    Le groupe Sabena a présenté ses résultats hier mardi. La "bonne surprise" annoncée il y a quelques semaines par Paul Reutlinger se confirme, puisque le résultat courant de l'année 1997 est positif de 9 millions de BEF, contre une perte de plus de quatre milliards en 1996. Toutefois, le résultat d'entreprise du groupe, après charges exceptionnelles de 2.523 millions, est négatif de 2.514 millions (contre - 8.867 mio. en 1996).
  • Marseille entend corriger le tir
    "Dans le cadre d'InterMed, un GIE constitué par les ports de Marseille, Gênes et Barcelone, nous allons rencontrer pour la troisième fois le commissaire européen au Transport Neil Kinnock au sujet du Livre vert sur les ports et les infrastructures maritimes. Cette nouvelle rencontre aura lieu à Barcelone et nous sommes bien décidés à ne pas nous laisser faire. L'Europe portuaire et la politique qui s'y rapportera, ne se feront pas sous la conduite des ports du Nord. Nous ne sommes pas des ports régionaux, il faut bien le réaliser." C'est ce que nous a déclaré Henry Roux-Alezais, président du PA de Marseille-Fos, lors d'une manifestation organisée sur le stand qu'anime son port à la Semaine Internationale du Transport et de la Logistique, qui se tient ces jours-ci à Paris.

    Former V/Line Freight managing director Marinus van Onselen has emerged as the lead figure of the powerful Freight Victoria Ltd consortium bidding for the V/Line Freight business, which is to be sold off by the middle of the year.
    The Melbourne-based consortium which has the primary aim of bidding for V-Line Freight Corporation, comprises heavyweight backers - Macquarie Bank, Rail America and Serco.
  • Pilots face conflicts - Hirst
    The decision of some Australian port authorities to contract out for pilotage services had led to some pilots having difficulties reconciling their professional needs with those of the firms that employ them, according to the executive director of the Australian Association of Port Marine Authorities, John Hirst.
    He said the relationship between the pilotage company and the port authority needed to be that of any principal and contractor who would work towards a common goal.
  • Cho Yang looks for Australian growth
    Cho Yang Line's managing director for liner trades, Joung-Boo Shin, reaffirmed the line's commitment to the Australian trade on a recent visit to Sydney.
    Mr Shin, who was in Australia primarily for discussions with partners Blue Star Line and Maersk said the company had expanded the range of ports it offers to Australian shippers to include ports in north China and Taiwan.
  • Brisbane to triple air freight
    Brisbane Airport Corp Ltd which took over ownership of Brisbane Airport last July, yesterday launched a master plan aiming to more than triple the amount of airfreight handled at the airport over the next 20 years.
    The corporation also proposes to triple the airport's passenger traffic by the year 2018, and build another runway in the next decade enabling it to introduce a parallel runway system providing takeoffs and landings over the bay.
