Pilots face conflicts - Hirst The decision of some Australian port authorities to contract out for pilotage services had led to some pilots having difficulties reconciling their professional needs with those of the firms that employ them, according to the executive director of the Australian Association of Port Marine Authorities, John Hirst. He said the relationship between the pilotage company and the port authority needed to be that of any principal and contractor who would work towards a common goal.

Brisbane to triple air freight Brisbane Airport Corp Ltd which took over ownership of Brisbane Airport last July, yesterday launched a master plan aiming to more than triple the amount of airfreight handled at the airport over the next 20 years. The corporation also proposes to triple the airport's passenger traffic by the year 2018, and build another runway in the next decade enabling it to introduce a parallel runway system providing takeoffs and landings over the bay.
