Oil Tops $15 Barrier Recovering world oil prices passed a milestone today, hitting a new 10-month high. International benchmark North Sea Brent broke through the $15 a barrel level for the first time since May 1998, to trade up to $15.30 in afternoon business in London before closing at $15.22. Also today, the U.S. Department of Energy released its annual energy forecast report which said that world demand for crude oil is expected to increase an average of 1.8 percent a year over the next two decades. Based on these projections, DOE said global oil demand would jump to 110 million bpd in 2020, from its current level of 75 million bpd.
