  • EU Urges US to Lift Trade Impediments, Restrictions
In a recently published annual report on U.S. barriers to trade and investment, the European Commission urged the U.S. to further tackle various trade and regulatory impediments.
While U.S. tariff barriers have been reduced substantially through General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade talks, there still are a considerable number of impediments such as the customs user fees and the excessive invoicing requirements on importers, the report said.

The commission also criticized the U.S.'s Jones Act which restricts foreign-flag carriers' access to U.S. domestic shipping and the federal preference cargo program.
