Smooth sailing for P&O Cruises Division 1998 was a particularly good year for P&O's Cruises Division with the outlook remaining extremely positive. Releasing cruise statistics for the October to December 1998 period, P&O said that on anticipated increased capacity for the division of 16 per cent in 1999, bookings remain ahead of those at this time last year. Revenue yields are good while unit costs are reducing, the company added.
Maersk Line expands again DENMARK'S Maersk Line, already one of the world's premier shipping lines, has announced further expansion of its global services. With immediate effect the line said it will start a direct service between Europe and the French Antilles: Martinique, Guadeloupe and Trinidad & Tobago. The service will be fixed day weekly and offer direct sailings from ports on the following rotation: Antwerp, Felixstowe, Dunkerque, Rouen, Le Havre, Brest, Montoir, Algeciras, Pointe-A-Pitre, Fort de France, Port of Spain, Basse Terre, Fort de France, Le Havre, Antwerp. The first sailing left the Antilles on 9 January from Fort de France and the first departure from Europe will be from Antwerp on Monday.
