Cette dernière a les atouts nécessaires pour devenir la plaque tournante logistique de l'Europe. Ceci, grâce à sa localisation centrale, une population professionnelle hautement formée, motivée et productive, des ports modernes et une offre étendue en matière d'infrastructures de transport. On ne peut cacher qu'il y a des aspects structurels qui entravent ce développement et partant, il est essentiel qu'une stratégie commune à but précis soit élaborée, de même qu'une combinaison de la commaunauté portuaire flamande et du secteur public peut contribuer au développement d'une politique efficace à même de relever les défis". Tel est l'essentiel du message que diffuse l'organisation patronale flamande VEV (Vlaams Economisch Verbond) dans une note intitulée "Une politique portuaire stratégique".
