South Korean warships sank one North Korean patrol boat and badly damaged another in an exchange of gunfire in the West Sea yesterday morning, the Defense Ministry announced.

The incident began at 9:25 a.m. when a North Korean boat fired at Southern vessels which were blocking the intruding Northern ships and continued for five minutes.
