  • Pusan terminal to spend 49b won on upgrading
WITH demand rising strongly at South Korea's main ports, Hyundai Pusan Container Terminal, one of the main container terminals at South Korea's Pusan Port, is upgrading its facilities and services to capture more of the market and enhance its competitiveness.
  • Move to improve safety on Yangtze
Air and Land Transport
  • Power blackout at Sydney airport again
[SYDNEY] Sydney Airport was brought to a standstill for an hour-and-a-half early yesterday as its second power failure in a month raised fears about its ability to cope with next month's Olympics.
  • UK, French experts meet to discuss safety issues
  • Australia to install cameras at major ports
  • BA searches for clues to smell of fuel on Concorde
  • Japan starts building offshore airport
  • Indian Airlines invites aircraft bids
  • Impending SkyTeam membership a boost for Czech airline
Features
  • A source of pride and pain
IT'S been a source of pride for its European builders and of headaches for accountants. Sometimes called Europe's answer to America's space programme, the Concorde SST, one of which crashed last week outside Paris, has been unprofitable for the French-British consortium that built it and, until recently, for the two airlines that flew it. Aviation experts say it was doomed from the start, economically, by a range that's too short, by too few seats and by a fuel-wasting 1960s design never worth updating because so few Concordes are flying -- 13 before Tuesday's crash. Range, according to Jane's All the World's Aircraft, is 6,545km, just more than half the range of the Boeing 747-400.
