Jusqu'à présent ce genre d'activités se manifeste essentiellement dans la zone portuaire de Bassens, mais pas dans un contexte bien structuré.

    Le week-end dernier, le carcarrier "Rio Blanco" de l'armateur Mitsui OSK Lines est venu décharger une cargaison record de 4.028 Mazda au terminal automobile de Hessenatie sur la rive gauche à Anvers. Il s'agissait du premier envoi "dédié" de voitures pour le compte de la marque japonaise. Le navire avait chargé les voitures à Hiroshima et avait navigué directement vers Anvers pour y décharger toute sa cargaison. Le délai de transit entre le Japon et le port scaldien a ainsi pu être ramené de 40 jours habituellement à 29 jours. Pour l'armateur, cela s'est traduit par une diminution des coûts opérationnels, alors que le constructeur automobile a vu baisser de 27% son "lead time" pour le transport des voitures entre son usine nipponne et le marché européen.
