Les ports seront désormais inscrits dans un encadrement assez strict en ce qui concerne la politique et la gestion, dont le principal objectif est d'éviter des concurrences internes néfastes et une utilisation optimale des investissements.

Les négociations en question portent sur une location de slots, soit l'équivalent de 600 TEU par semaine dans chaque sens. Si l'accord est réalisé, ce qui devrait intervenir d'ici trois à quatre semaines, CMA CGM pourrait alors se parer du titre de"global carrier" à part entière. Pour l'instant en effet, l'armement français n'a qu'une faible activité sur l'Atlantique, du moins au départ de la façade atlantique de l'Europe, via son service Tour du monde assuré en coopération avec Marfret et Contship, service westbound qui touche New York, Norfolk et Savannah.
