    Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL), armement japonais qui est actif dans la navigation de ligne et le transport de voitures et de gaz, semble se diriger sur une hausse de 50% de son bénéfice durant l’exercice en cours, qui expire fin mars 2001. C’est le président Kunio Suzuki en personne qui a annoncé la bonne nouvelle à l’occasion de sa première visite à Londres depuis qu’il a pris les rennes de l’armement japonais en juin dernier. “1999 a été un bon cru. Notre division de containers a renoué avec le bénéfice pour la première fois depuis vingt ans et il semble que le résultat s’inscrira à nouveau en hausse cette année”, a-t-il déclaré.

    Les syndicats socialiste BTB et chrétien CVD, qui représentent ensemble la majorité des dockers locaux, ont sévèrement critiqué la semaine dernière la politique menée au port de Gand. Ils font ainsi grand cas de la baisse du contingent d’ouvriers portuaires et de ce qu’ils ressentent comme une incapacité à attirer des trafics maritimes à grande intensité de travail permettant d’employer ces dockers. Aucune action n’est toutefois annoncée.
