Ensemble, ils constituent le plus grand groupe de poids lourds en Europe et le deuxième à l'échelle mondiale. L'opération devrait à terme permettre de réduire les coûts de 3 mia. de SEK par an.

Classé à la 12e place mondiale des grands du liner containérisé à la fin 99, CMA CGM fait effectivement partie des mega-carriers Est-Ouest - sa présence sur l'AN est pour l'instant limitée - avec ramifications Nord-Sud. Son déploiement géographique se poursuit et il va se mettre dès l'année prochaine au diapason des nouvelles générations de PC de 6.500 TEU, dont il disposera de 10 exemplaires. Cette expansion, qui se manifeste avec la création de nouveaux services, en solitaire ou en partenariat, doit évidemment aller de pair avec un renforcement des équipes commerciales à l'échelle mondiale, ce qui est en cours.

Cette exemption s'applique uniquement à des consortiums maritimes ayant une part de marché de 30 à 35% au maximum. Elle a été introduite en 1995 pour permettre aux membres de ces groupes de bénéficier d'exceptions aux règles normales de concurrence de l'UE dans le but d'améliorer la situation économique de ce secteur.
