Précisons que cette réduction de capacité ne se fait pas d'une manière programmée ou concertée, mais qu'elle résulte d'actions propres à chacun des armements. On sait que la FEFC avait recommandé une réduction de capacité de l'ordre de 10% pour la période octobre/mars 2002. Lors de la réunion tenue à Hong-Kong la semaine dernière, il a fallu revoir la situation et il a été recommandé de doubler ce pourcentage.

La nouvelle n'a pas manqué de surprendre tant en Allemagne qu'à l'étranger. Hapag-Lloyd va ainsi perdre un de ses plus brillants managers, si pas le plus brillant, qui a contribué à faire de cette entreprise l'armement le mieux géré d'Europe, mais aussi le plus rentable.
