    Pour la première fois depuis 1993, le port d’Anvers a vu la valeur ajoutée qu’il génère par ses activités diminuer en 1999 de 5,9%, sur base de prix nominaux, à 6 mia. d’euros, soit 242,7 mia. de BEF, ceci par rapport à l’exercice record de 1998. En termes réels, ce recul était pratiquement de même importance, soit -5,4%. C’est ce qui ressort de la onzième édition du rapport de la Banque Nationale de Belgique sur l’importance économique du port d’Anvers. Parallèlement le PIB a progressé de 2,7%. Il s ‘avère que ce sont essentiellement les résultats de quelques grandes entreprises du secteur industriel qui ont influencé les chiffres de manière négative. Par contre, la valeur ajoutée du secteur des services portuaires a enregistré une croissance de 1%.
