    La première unité fluviale du nouveau Rhinemacs Express Barge Service a été déchargée hier au terminal Westerlund dans la zone portuaire de la rive gauche anversoise. “Avec ce service, nous voulons désenclaver la rive gauche pour la navigation intérieure”, a déclaré Gaston Jansens de l’armement allemand MACS. Le nouveau service relie directement les terminaux à containers rhénans à la rive gauche anversoise, où des cargaisons destinées à la Namibie, au Mozambique et a l’Afrique du Sud sont transbordées sur les unités de MACS.

En effet, il s’avère que les deux premiers postes du nouvel avant-port à réaliser sur l’estuaire de la Seine dans le cadre du projet “Port 2000”, sont en fait déjà attribués à l’opérateur Terminaux de Normandie, suite au protocole d’accord signé entre ce dernier, le Port autonome et l’armement MSC, qui annonce un trafic de quelque 400.000 à 500.000 mouvements pour 2004 (dont les deux tiers résulteront d’activités de transhipment). Et ceci, sans qu’il ait été nécessaire d’avoir recours à un appel d’offres international comme le prône la Commission européenne.
