LAutriche avait pourtant demandé cette réduction en vertu du principe de la « clause de 108 % ». Alors que les premières statistiques remises par lAutriche semblaient indiquer un dépassement du seuil de 108 % en 2000, un examen plus approfondi des chiffres a remis en cause ces données: elles napportaient aucune preuve de la réalité effective du transit. La Commission a conclu que lAutriche doit fournir des statistiques claires et sans ambiguïté, prouvant que les transits ont bien eu lieu. En conséquence, la Commission distribuera les écopoints restants pour lannée 2001.
Gand voit son trafic maritime baisser de 2,4% au premier semestre Durant le premier semestre de lannée, le trafic maritime du port de Gand a baissé de 2,4% par rapport aux six premiers mois de 2000. Le trafic a baissé de 0,8% à lentrée et de 9,8% à la sortie. Quasi toutes les catégories de marchandises se sont inscrites en baisse à lexception des vracs secs, qui ont augmenté de 2,8%.
Rotterdam veut un level playing field pour les contrôles douaniers Le secteur privé du port de Rotterdam a à diverses reprises déjà souligné limportance des contrôles douaniers tout en précisant que leur efficacité reste limitée à défaut dun level playing field, cest-à-dire dun équilibre en ce qui concerne la fréquence et lintensité des contrôles. Deltalinqs, lalliance rotterdamoise des entreprises portuaires et de lindustrie (pétrochimique), vient de réitérer ce point de vue et souligne en outre quelle accroîtra ses propres efforts en vue de solutionner le problème. Elle estime que labsence de contrôles dans dautres ports européens nuit directemetn à la compétitivité du port de Rotterdam.
