(Société d’Opérations maritimes et fluviales, dépendante du groupe Cockerill-Sambre, et la firme S.A.T.E.M. s.a. (Société d’Affrètement de Transit et de Mise à Bord) qui dépendait d’Usinor. Une modification du cadre juridique des entreprises a eu lieu ce 29 juin, qui implique la scission de la société S.O.M.E.F. en deux entreprises distinctes, à savoir Ocean Logistics s.a. issue du rapprochement de ses activités anversoises avec celles de S.A.T.E.M., basée à Anvers et SOMEF s.a. basée à Liège.

    La Belgique n’a pas l’intention d’adhérer à la nouvelle “Convention 1999” sur la saisie conservatoire des navires. Dans une lettre, un responsable du ministère du Transport et de l’Infrastructure précise qu’une ratification par la Belgique “ne semble pas opportune”. La nouvelle convention perturberait “l’équilibre existant dans le traitement des intérêts des armateurs et des affréteurs d’une part et des intéressés par la cargaison d’autre part”, estime-on à Bruxelles. Le gouvernement belge soutient de la sorte les chargeurs et les secteurs portuaires, qui avaient demandé dans une motion déposée en début d’année de ne pas ratifier le texte.
