Pour ce faire, un petit PC d’une capacité de 85 containers de 45 pieds, le m/v “Induna” a été affrété pour une première période de 6 mois, avec option pour des prolongations.

    La société française de messagerie rapide et d’express Joyau a réalisé un CA de près de 200 mio. d’EUR en 2001, contre 160 mio. d’EUR en 2000. Cette forte hausse s’est produite dans le contexte du programme de forte expansion lancé au début de 2000, qui prévoit un doublement de la taille de la société en France. Pour cette année, un CA de 245 mio. d’EUR est prévu. A la fin de cette année, le réseau devrait compter 50 à 55 agences, contre une trentaine au début de 2000. Cette croissance ambitieuse, néanmoins, se fait sans pénaliser la rentabilité. En effet, un bénéfice d’exploitation de 5,2 mio. d’EUR a été dégagé en 2000 (et un bénéfice net de 2,7 mio. d’EUR). “Les chiffres pour 2001 n’ont pas encore été arrêtés, mais ils sont sensiblement meilleurs encore”, nous a déclaré Jacques Godet, le PDG de l’entreprise, en marge de la SITL.

    La navigation intérieure connaît un succès grandissant ces dernières années. Le trafic sur les voies d’eau a à nouveau progressé de quelques pourcents (en t/km, car les volumes ont légèrement baissé) en 2001, une année pourtant difficile d’un point de vue économique. La congestion croissante qui touche le transport routier, la libéralisation du transport par la voie d’eau et des mesures comme la diminution sensible des droits de navigation et le co-financement des murs de quai par les autorités ne sont pas étrangers à cette évolution. Il n’en reste pas moins vrai que l’unité fluviale ne pourra véritablement jouer son rôle “de mode de transport de l’avenir” que lorsqu’un certain nombre d’obstacles auront été éliminés et ce, tant côté eau que terrestre. C’est ce qui s’est avéré lors de l’étape gantoise du “Tour de Flandre” organisé par Promotie Binnenvaart Vlaanderen (PBV) à l’occasion de son dixième anniversaire.

    Les pilotes sont en fait des forces administratives et le fait que l’utilisateur final paie directement les coûts du service de pilotage n’enlève en rien au caractère publique de la prestation de service. C’est l’avis exprimé par l’European Maritime Pilots’ Association (EMPA). L’association avec siège à Anvers se dit déçue du manque d’adaptations au projet de texte de la directive portuaire et plus particulièrement de l’ouverture des services de pilotage à la concurrence. Elle estime qu’une libéralisation inspirée par une réduction des coûts portuaires témoigne d’un manque de vision à long terme qui risque de menacer la sécurité. Commission, armements, chargeurs, prestataires de services maritimes (agents, expéditeurs, etc.) et ports restent favorables à une libéralisation.
