ERS Railways transforme les armements en transporteurs ferroviaires Mærsk Sealand et P&O Nedlloyd ont décidé dorganiser eux-mêmes le transport ferroviaire de marchandises car les services de lordre établi laissent à désirer. Ils ont réussi à mettre sur pied ERS Railways dans un délai de six mois. Il sagit dun spin-off de European Rail Shuttle (ERS), dans lequel les deux groupes maritimes participaient déjà. Mærsk Sealand et P&O Nedlloyd détiennent chacun la moitié des actions, mais cela ne signifie pas pour autant quERS Railways effectue exclusivement des transports pour leur compte vers Germersheim, Neuss et Mayence. Pas moins de 30% du volume est transporté pour le compte de tiers.
Les transporteurs US commencent à percevoir des signes de reprise Bon nombre des transporteurs routiers américains ont annoncé des bénéfices en hausse au troisième trimestre, de même quune croissance de leur chiffre daffaires. Cette nette amélioration est due en grande partie à la réduction de la capacité résultant de la faillite de plusieurs sociétés (dont la principale est celle de Consolidated Freightways le mois passé), mais, fait nouveau, ils ont été nombreux à resentir les effets dun début de reprise économique. Celle-ci est toutefois encore trop faible pour que les consommateurs reprennent suffisamment confiance. Cest ce qui explique pourquoi UPS a fait exception à la règle.
USA/côte ouest: le Département de la Justice enquête sur le travail au ralenti Dans les ports américains de la côte ouest, le rattrapage des dix jours de lock-out se poursuit plus lentement que prévu. Les estimations avancées il y a quelques jours par la Pacific Maritime Association (PMA) et qui portaient sur un délai de dix semaines au moins pour un retour à la normale, savèrent chaque jour plus réalistes. La situation est devenue préoccupante au point que le Département de la Justice a réclamé durgence - tant de la Pacific Maritime Association (patronat) que du syndicat ILWU - toutes les informations et documentations relatives à ce travail au ralenti. Ces données doivent être mises à disposition pour ce vendredi. Cette démarche fait suite à une plainte déposée par la PMA.
