  • Operational profit Kuehne & Nagel up 12.5 per cent
    In the first half of 2002 the globally operating logistics group Kuehne & Nagel had an increase in turnover of 2.1 per cent to 4.2 billion Swiss Francs (CHF), 2.9 billion euro. The gross profit improved by 24.4 per cent to CHF 952 million (656 million euro) versus the same period last year.

    Vastera, provider of logistics software and solutions, said pro forma loss for second quarter ended June 30, 2002 was $954,000, or $.02 per share compared to $3.4 million or $.09 per share in the same quarter of the prior year.

    Approximately 95 million counterfeit or pirated articles were intercepted at the external borders of the European Union in 2001, according to statistics just published by the European Commission on the Europa website.

    BAA plc, the UK international airport group, today announced normalised profit before tax for the first quarter to 30 June 2002 of '143 million (30 June 2001: '152 million), a decrease of 5.9 per cent.

    KLM said the damage of the wildcat strike of 200 ground engineers on Saturday cost the airline 15 million euro, until the Amsterdam court ordered in an emergency hearing that the engineers must return to work.
  • US West Coast wage talks delayed till August
    The International Longshore and Warehouse Union representing about 10,500 dockworkers and the group representing shipping lines are set to resume talks on a new contract on August 14, as they seek to avoid a shutdown of US West Coast ports.

    Vendredi dernier, l’armement CMA CGM a officiellement passé commande chez Samsung d’une série de 8 PC de 5.770 TEU livrables à partir d’avril 2004. Il s’agit d’unités filant 26 noeuds, animées par un 10 cylindres. Pour cet armement, c’est là l’occasion d’une grande première en ce sens qu’il assure par lui même cette commande dans sa totalité, n’ayant pas comme d’habitude recours à des compagnies maritimes de financement pour une partie du tonnage, moyennant contrats d’affrètements à long terme.
  • L’UIRR réclame l’approbation intégrale du programme “Marco Polo”
    L’Union Internationale des Sociétés de Transport Combiné Rail-Route (UIRR) demande aux Etats-membres de l’UE et au Parlement européen d’adopter le programme “Marco Polo” proposé par la Commission européenne. On sait que celui-ci est appelé à remplacer le programme PACT (Pilot Actions for Combined Transport), dont le succès est indéniable mais qui est arrivé entre-temps à son terme. Avec Marco Polo, la Commission européenne propose un programme de promotion des modes de transport alternatifs plus étendu et doté d’un budget sensiblement plus élevé.

    L’opérateur postal britannique Consignia envisage de vendre sa filiale General Logistics Services, active dans le transport rapide et la logistique sur le continent. GLS détient une participation majoritaire dans GPD (connu sous le nom de German Parcel Distibution ou General Parcel Distribution selon les marchés. C’est ce qu’écrit le journal The Observer.
  • Recul comme prévu des résultats semestriels de Kühne & Nagel
    Le groupe logistique suisse Kühne & Nagel a réalisé au premier semestre un chiffre d’affaires de 4,2 mia. de CHF. Le bénéfice brut a augmenté de 24,4% à près de 952 mio. de CHF. Atteignant 109,6 mio. de CHF, le bénéfice avant impôts a reculé de 15,4% par rapport à la première moitié de 2001. Sur base du bénéfice net de 73,5 mio. de CHF (82,7 mio. au premier semestre 2001) de la première moitié de l’année, la direction de K&N prévoit de dépasser les 150 mio. de CHF pour l’ensemble de l’année.
