Port Elizabeth's fast-growing economy is being slowed down by the inability of the city's harbour to cope with increased trade. Business says productivity at the port has instead dropped dramatically when faced with the challenge of handling more containers.
Port Elizabeth's harbour is the artery that feeds the region with its economic life blood. However, it has become inefficient and the health of the economy has been affected. A vibrant economy has seen the number of containers passing through the port nearly double in eight years.
