Private operator can develop only 2 box terminals
According to a new policy for Major Ports drafted by the Ministry of Shipping, a private operator will be allowed to develop and operate only two container terminals having a total quay length of 1,600 metres in any one of the 12 government-owned Major Ports.
Since box terminals require a minimum quay length to optimise utilisation of the facility, "a quay length of 800 metres in a straight line will be considered wherever possible for one container terminal in future
