NEW DELHI, JUNE 3: P&O Ports, the operator of Nhava Sheva International Container Terminal (NSICT), and Indian Private Ports and Terminals Association (IPPTA) have urged the new government to stall the award of third container terminal contract by the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT).
The contract was almost awarded to a consortium of Maersk, the largest container line in the world, and Container Corporation of India (Concor) but for an Election Commission order which barred JNPT to grant the project under the model code of conduct. A shipping ministry official said the bid is valid till June 26, 2004 and if it lapses, the project will have to be put up for rebidding
