Workers at UK's biggest ports operator balloted on first industrial action since 1980s
A looming strike by dock workers is threatening to drive up the cost of Christmas presents as importers would pass on extra haulage costs to consumers.
The Transport and General Workers' Union (T&G) yesterday unveiled plans to ballot dockers at the country's biggest ports group, Associated British Ports, over a "national strike" for the first time since Margaret Thatcher privatised the country's ports in the late 1980s
