Savina Caylyn morning the tanker, of 105,000 deadweight tons and the Italian flag, was attacked and kidnapped by pirates while sailing in the Indian Ocean. Against the ship, which is owned by the Italian shipping company Dolphin Tanker, a 50:50 joint venture between the group and the Genova Scerni Neapolitan shipping company Fratelli D'Amato, shots were fired gunshot heavy and light - as reported by the Italian Navy - would not have affected the crew which is composed of five Italian seafarers and 17 of Indian nationality. The ship is part of the fleet of Fratelli D'Amato.
EUNAVFOR Operation Command in Atlanta, the European naval force to combat piracy, has announced that the attack took place about 670 nautical miles east of the island of Socotra and the Savina Caylyn was attacked by a boat carrying five pirates.
Currently, the Italian Navy frigate Zeffiro is directed towards the area where the attack occurred.
