Today in Milan was presented a study of the MIP, the Business School of Politecnico di Milano, the impact on the Italian economic system of Costa Cruises, the largest Italian tourism group and the first cruise company in Europe.
Last year, Costa Cruises has generated an economic impact of more than 2.2 billion euro for the Italian economy and was among the top 10 companies to profitability and in 49th place ranking in 2010 for sales of Mediobanca, which takes into account more than 3,700 Italian companies with at least 50 million euro turnover.
The total of over € 2.2 billion in economic impact was calculated as generated from three main sources. The direct spending, which includes expenditure incurred directly by the group, plus the cost of staff salaries Italian or resident in Italy - both of land and working in the offices of the board - equivalent to a total of over 3,600 units of work Full-time (calculated according to work unit FTE - full time equivalent employees - full time equivalent). To direct expenditure on salaries and then you add the impact generated on the supply chain and indirect costs, or expenses incurred directly by the cruise ship vacation on the Costa fleet on the Italian territory.
The costs include all direct costs incurred by the Italian group, to suppliers and distributors (travel agents) Italian, also on behalf of its cruise passengers: in 2010 totaled over 880 million euro. Include, for example, the overhead costs of supplies, the cost of construction and maintenance of ships in the fleet; commissions to travel agents, port services.
This direct spending has affected all Italian regions.Liguria is the first place among the most exploited regions, with almost € 230 million of direct spending (more than one quarter of the total), followed by California (nearly 185 million), Veneto (135 million) and Lazio (about 132 million ), also for the presence of many suppliers who work with Costa Cruises. Even landlocked regions like Umbria and Valle D'Aosta, benefit from the direct spending in a relatively significant (respectively 3.1 and 4.6 million euro).
Taking into account the proportion of direct spending that falls on the ports, totaling over 28 million euro, the port is the most valued Venice (€ 10.3 million), followed from Savona (5,5 million €) , Civitavecchia (4.3 million euro) and Naples (2.2 million euro).
In 2010 a significant voice in the direct cost on the Italian territory is the expense incurred for the fleet of nearly 110 million € for the maintenance of ships already in service and almost 320 million euro for the construction of new vessels. These costs have had a major impact on the shipbuilding and furniture - furniture, textiles and design.
The indirect costs, however, cover the costs incurred by passengers in Italy (Italians and foreigners) on holiday on Costa Cruises ships have been estimated at approximately EUR 70 million.Included in this scope there are for example the cost of travel from home (or from the airport of arrival in Italy for foreign travelers) to the Italian port of embarkation or airport from which to embark for foreign destination where the port. But also costs such as buying property purely "tourist" to better address the vacancy. It ranges from bathing suits to suitcases, from sunscreen to purchase components for photography.
The direct costs, salaries and direct expenses in turn generate indirect effects on the supply chain of products and services (employment at suppliers, which in turn generates demand for market orders to suppliers of suppliers, etc..) That estimated by MIP hovering around 1.2 billion euro.
The economic impact of the costs incurred in an employment impact of great importance, the study estimated at 12,300 units, of which 3,600 and 8,700 employed directly by the group generated along supply chains and operators of tourist services (calculated on the basis of unit Working FTE), for a total salary of more than € 373 million gross.
The study also shows that the economic impact on the system-generated in 2010 from Italy Costa Crociere is equivalent to the total annual gross income of about 120,600 full-time workers and that the tax revenue generated by the cruise company and its suppliers had which is comparable to 4.4% of Budget 2011.
"The value of this study - said the president and CEO of Costa Cruises, Pier Luigi Foschi - goes beyond the numbers themselves, which are also significant. Our goal is to quantify, with an objective methodology, the ability to contribute positively to the Costa Cruises Italian economic system, and therefore to be one of the main protagonists of the economic life of our country. Our vocation as host and guests to travel around the world means that Costa is also the best ambassador of Italian culture and style. In this regard we believe it is even more significant is the root of our company with the territory, today we comment that the figures do nothing but confirm. "
The fleet of the Coast has 26 ships in service, 14 of which operate under the brand name Costa Crociere, AIDA Cruises with the eight and four with the brand Iberocruceros. In addition, the company has commissioned four new ships, including two for two for Costa Cruises and AIDA Cruises.
