Reached an understanding on the port of Gioia Tauro who avoids the start of the procedures of mobility for 467 workers through the resource to the redundancy fund



Today to Rome government, Region Calabria and Medcenter Container Terminal (MCT), the society of the group Contship Italy that manages the container terminal of the port of Gioia Tauro, has undersigned an agreement with the objective to exceed the state of crisis in which the calabrian port is found.

Al term of the encounter, to which to the minister and the undersecretary have participated to Infrastructures and the Transports, Altero Matteoli and Aurelio Misiti, the undersecretary to the Economy and Finances, Antonio Gentile, the president of the Calabria Region, Giuseppe Scopelliti, the president of the Harbour Authority of Gioia Tauro, Giovanni Grimaldi, and the representatives of the ministries of the Economic Development and the Job and the labor organizations, minister Matteoli has emphasized that the reached understanding "is a first meaningful step that avoid the mobility procedures for staff and that it opens a shared distance in order to throw again the activity of the important harbour port of call, recovering its productivity and safeguarding the occupational levels".

The ministry of Infrastructures and the Transports has announced that in the course of encounter MCT it has illustrated the situation of crisis, deriving on one side from the loss of consequent productive volumes to the sudden decision of the shipowning company Danish Maersk Line not to scale the terminal more than Gioia Tauro and from the other from the loss of business competitiveness characterized from a progressive increase of the differential between costs and revenues today arrived to a 37%. A situation - it has explained MCT - "that imposes the immediate performance of a plan of business rescue, based on the reduction of all the costs, firstly that of the staff who evidences surplus for number 467 workers".

The ministry has specified that, upon request of minister Matteoli, also on behalf of the ministry of the Job and the ministry of the economic Development, MCT has been declared available to receive the request of all the labor organizations renouncing to start the mobility procedures. In order to manage this situation of crisis, the company will propose the resource to the redundancy fund for business crisis, that it allows to put into effect a plan of stiff business reorganization to the recovery of organizational efficiency and productivity. The resource to the extraordinary redundancy fund would have the duration of a renewable year until 36 months.

From part its Calabria Region has engaged itself to giving completed performance to the forecasts of the Agreement of Program Picture (APQ) of september 2010 aimed to project the port of Gioia Tauro from the current status of "port of transhipment" to "integrated logistic pole", that it previews the realization beside the current terminal of a railway gateway very connected to the net of the national system and of a logistic district, intended as with of participations in a position to creating the conditions necessary to favor the takeover of the great industrial and logistic operators. Moreover the Region has been engaged to put into effect all the possible participations of policies assets and liabilities in favour of the occupation necessary to the support of the plan of MCT reorganization and of the realization of the initiatives of the Agreement of Program Picture.

Contship Italy instead has been declared available to collaborate with the E region Invitalia in order to constitute a society of warehousing that acts as project pilot in order to catalyze the interest of qualificabili societies as anchor business in their segment of logistic and industrial activity.

The labor organizations from part they are taken part guarantor for the maintenance of a climate of industrial relations serene and collaborativo and for the elaboration of a contract of area of the Flat one of Gioia Tauro, operating instrument in order to attract to future entrepreneurial initiatives in constituting the logistic district.

At last the ministry of the economic Development has been engaged to realize how much of own competence for the insertion of Gioia Tauro in the crisis areas of which to law 2009, while the ministry of Infrastructures and the Transports has been engaged to carry out the role of direction of all the initiatives and the distances identified from the agreement, being guaranteed the necessary support to all the parts interested and responsible for the good resolution than object of the understanding. Moreover the same ministry of Infrastructures and the Transports has been engaged to carry out an activity of recognition and verification on those which they are the factors of distortion of the competition of the market of the services of transhipment in the Mediterranean: differential of the costs of labor with the North African terminals; taxation on the carriers (anchor duties) almost nonexistent in the ports of transhipment concurrent with those Italians (communitarian and not); octrois on diesel oil and energy decidedly more elevated in comparison to those applied in various communitarian states. This, specific the agreement, to the aim to estimate the presentation of bills of governmental initiative, compatible with the communitarian legislation, finalized to support in the next three years the competitive ability to the Italian companies.
