The President of the Port Authority of the Levant, Francis Mariani, and the Director of Infrastructure and Networks Division, Enel, Livio Gallo, have signed an agreement with the goal of making the port of Bari in the field of advanced energy efficiency and reduction emissions of pollutants and greenhouse gases.
This is a memorandum of understanding for technological innovation and the reduction of emissions from port activities it plans to develop, starting from the port current reality, a system of interventions which optimize the use of ' energy for port activities. The objective is to achieve an overall improvement in energy management and environmental impact in the port area with the inclusion of technological innovations on the existing network and systems enabling the optimal integration of renewable energy sources.
The Memorandum of Understanding Enel - Port Authority's offer of the Levant provides a wide range of interventions of high environmental value: study of systems of electric mobility and seamless integration into existing network of renewable sources in the port area, adoption of systems LED lighting in low lighting network port of the public areas, lighting and artistic initiatives, in general, improving the efficiency of energy systems of the ports.
Among the objectives is also included in the study of a system power supply (cold ironing) that allows large ships, during their stay in port, the removal of large quantities of air emissions from generators on board. The Apulian port authority said that it increased efficiency and emissions abatement systems found in power plants provide, compared with onboard generators, a reduction of over 30% of CO2 emissions and more than 95% for oxides oxide and particulate matter. Not to mention the elimination of noise pollution produced by the engines. In particular, cold ironing would benefit from the cruise ships, units from the high energy consumption.
Enel Distribuzione and Port Authority of East in addition, to ensure the achievement of the objectives of efficiency and distribution of electricity to the port activities and functions, have identified an area suitable to receive the state-owned port "cabin Primary" called " Bari Port ".
