The International Bargaining Forum (IBF), the body that deals with the negotiation of employment of seafarers, has reached a three-year agreement at the conclusion of talks held last week in Miami. The agreement applies to all IBF agreements from 1 January 2012, provides for incremental increases starting wages from an increase of 2% on 1 January 2012, a further 2.5% on 1 January 2013 and a final 3% applied on 1 January 2014.
5 agosto 2011:
The parts, made by the International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF) representing the sea and the Joint Negotiating Group (JNG) representing the part of employers (shipowners and agents), have announced that the agreement provides a new method of calculating whereby the percentage increase will be applied to an inclusive union pay and deductions, even if the specifications for the application of increases for the categories of officers and ratings - have pointed out - will be decided in negotiations conducted locally by representatives of seafarers and employers.
ITF and JNG agreed a 5% increase in the amount of contribution paid to the ITF Welfare Fund, to be added to the current 5%, if the number of ships covered by IBF Agreements will grow each year equal to the percentage of 2%, 2% and 1% in the period 2012-2014.
"In the last year - said at the conclusion of negotiations, the president of the ITF seafarers, Dave Heindel - has greatly increased the pressure on both sides of the IFB, which had to act responsibly to support both at sea and those who give their work. The collapse of global financial market has prompted employers to face the difficult time minimizing their cost increases and put pressure on the representatives of the seamen, on the one hand aware of the financial situation and willing to safeguard the interests and other the living conditions of their members. The final agreement we have reached proves the ability of the two parties to work together constructively, which is representative. This agreement testifies to the robustness of the IBF process and its ability to achieve results in difficult times of difficult issues. "
"The end result achieved dall'IBF - agreed Giles Heimann, Secretary General of the International Maritime Employer's Committee (IMEC) and co-secretary of the JNG - is a pragmatic and mutually acceptable agreement for both parties. The IBF system has once again demonstrated the ability of both sides of the table to work closely examine the main and urgent issues, through discussion, negotiation, respect and understanding of the views of both, has been found a solution that allows us all to confirm that we got a good result for the people we represent.
