the association German enviromentalist NABU does not consider the engagement sufficient towards the atmosphere of the crocieristica industry



The association German enviromentalist NABU (Natures And Biodiversity Conservation Union) denunciation that the produced atmospheric pollution from the cruise ships still is elevated in spite of the shipowning companies of the field have emphasized the minor environmental impact of the new ships inserted in their fleets.

Introducing the last relationship Kreuzfahrtranking 2017 elaborated from the association in order to measure the environmental impact of the crocieristica industry, the NABU has found that all the operators of the field continue to use heavy fuel oil for feeding the engines of their ships.

Al sixth place equally appears three ships of another German shipowning company, AIDA Cruises (AIDAprima, AIDAperla and AIDAsol). Al ninth place is others three ships of the Hapag- Lloyd Cruises (Bremen, Hanseatic and Europe). All the others 52 ships are classified in twelfth position and take part of the fleets, as well as of the same TUI and AIDA, the companies Celebrity Cruises, Costa Crociere, Cunard, Holland America, MSC Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line, P&O Cruises, Ponant, Royal Caribbean Cruises, Viking Ocean Cruises and Silversea Cruises.

"In spite of the repeated reassurances that the ships more are cleaned and more greens - the managing director of the NABU, Leif Miller has denounced - the consideration of the field in the cares of the continuous atmosphere to being insufficient. The deficiency of initiatives by Coast, MSC and Royal Caribbean in order to improve the environmental impact of their activities creates a damage to their customers, the residents of the harbour areas and to the total climate. Also we are disappointed by the initiatives of greenwashing of AIDA Cruises. They have not respected their promise to invest in filters for the particulate matter for the their entire fleet".

The NABU has complained moreover that nobody of these crocieristiche companies has answered to a questionnaire introduced from the association and that crocieristica association CLIA has only replied with comments vague and generals asserting that this topic is taken serious consideration.

"The environmental performances of the crocieristiche companies - it has accused in charge of the NABU for the field of the transports, Dietmar Oeliger - are very bad, so as their attitude to the transparency. Last year - Oeliger has asserted - the field has declared that 23 ships would be equipped of filters antiparticolato. The truth is that currently not even a single filter is not working".

The NABU has concluded the presentation of own relationship having asked a generalized prohibition to use heavy fuel oil for the ships and the adoption of norms that impose the installation of filters antiparticolato on all the ships.
