In Livorno yesterday, the contract of an integrated contract for the realization of the maritime works of defence and dredgings planned within the framework of the project for the realization of the new Darsena Europa, the work of expansion at sea of the labronic port scalo. The agreement was signed by the extraordinary commissioner of the opera, Luciano Guerrieri, who is president of the Port Authority of the Port of the Tyrrhenian Sea, and the special prosecutor Carlo Alberto Marconi, who spoke on behalf of the Italian government. of the Fondazione Italiana Dragaggi (Sidra) of the DEME Group, the proxies parent company of the Temporary Takeover Grouping, as well as from Sidra, by Fincantieri Infrastructure Works Maritime, Sales and Fincosit.

With the signing of the contract, the adjudicators will have 90 days to deliver the executive project, to prepare for which the RTI has commissioned a grouping of designers composed of Technital (proxies company), Modimar Project and E&G. Next, the activities for the reclamation will be started that will require 270 days.

The actual work will last for 1,700 days. For the maritime works, the realisation of a 4.6-kilometer outer foranea dam composed of the new supermourning pier (Diga Nord) and the new Diga of Meloria in subfluces (while the old one will be demolished) is expected. Internal dams will also be carried out for 2.3 kilometers, to delimit the new cholmata tanks (100 hectares) that will go to add to the existing ones (from 70 hectares) and already the subject of a consolidation project. The dredging interventions are aimed at the imbasement of the new works, the deepening of the basics of the access channel and the realization of the basins and interior dares.

In all, 15.7 million cubic metres of sediment will be dredged. A portion of the excavation material, for a total of five million cubic meters, will be targeted at the contrast of rising sea levels and the loss of the coast's surfaces by the effect of coastal erosion. At the same time the sediment will be employed as a filling and construction material, replacing the virgin material of cava, thus with the purpose of protecting the landscape.

The AdSP has specified that the commissarial structure counts to start the construction site by the end of the year, once the Environmental Impact Assessment has been acquired, the proceedings by which the effects are pre-emptively detected on the environment of an infrastructure project.

At the same time as the start of the work, the AdSP will proceed with a separate procurement to start the container terminal competition, and to implement and manage the contribution of the private sector. The size of the facility provides for 60 hectares of apron, a 1,400-meter-meter platform with -16-meter seabed (with the possibility of deepening up to -20 metres), a new channel of access north of the port with -17-meter-wide grounds (with possibility of deepening at -21 meters).

"The work will change the face of our stopover and will have a major impact on the entire Port of the Upper Tyrol System," said Guerrieri.
