
In 2024, rail shipments operated by the company
German intermodal Kombiverkehr were equal to about 780 thousand
shipments by truck, with a decrease of about -5% compared to the year
previous one that follows the sharpest decline of -16%
marked in 2023. By announcing the volume of traffic handled, the
last year, the Frankfurt-based company explained that
the weakening of the economy in Germany and Europe has led to the
impact on freight transport and intermodal transport and in the
2024, which was the second consecutive year of recession

in Germany, Kombiverkehr also recorded a decline in
intermodal shipments. The company specified that it has
however, it has withstood the impact of these factors well, even in
consideration of the high level of activity of
construction on the German railway network which involved the
closure of several lines, including that of a few months of the
Strategic Riedbahn railway connecting Frankfurt with Mannheim
on the north-south axis.

were equal to about 180 thousand trucks (-3%), while in
A total of 600,000 shipments were made internationally
(-6%).
In terms of containers transported, the volume of traffic
last year amounted to approximately
1.5 million TEU containers compared to 1.63 million in 2023.
Commenting on the operational activity carried out in 2024,
the managing director of Kombiverkehr, Armin Riedl,
highlighted the need to support transport
also through incentives: "combined transport -
specified - needs a total exemption from the tolls of the
pre- and post-transport phases, as proposed by the Commission
EU draft directive on combined transport. Those people
who move their shipments in an environmentally friendly way
should benefit from a corresponding bonus".
