
With the latest orders for 24 new 18,000 TEU containerships
issued by the CMA CGM Group to South Korean and Chinese shipyards
(
of
23
January and
4
March 2025), the French shipowning group is preparing to
overtake Denmark's Maersk in second place in the ranking of the
Top global containerized ocean carriers by capacity
of the fleet placing itself behind the Swiss MSC.
Based on data collected by the consulting firm
Alphaliner of the AXS Group, if currently, between ships of
owned and chartered, the MSC Group has a capacity
of containerized hold amounting to a total of 6.42 million
TEU, Maersk Group with a capacity of 4.54 million TEUs
and the French group CMA CGM of 3.87 million TEUs, adding the
container ships that are part of the current portfolio
orders of the three shipowners' groups, the capacity of the fleet
MSC rises to 8.47 million TEUs, Maersk's to 5.28 million TEUs
million TEUs, therefore lower than that of the CMA CGM which is
equal to 5.42 million TEUs.
Even net of chartered ships, the French company is
expected to exceed the Danish one in terms of load capacity:
currently between ships owned and ordered by the MSC group
has a capacity of 5.45 million TEUs, the CMA CGM of
3.75 million TEUs and Maersk 3.35 million TEUs.
