The International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the International
Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the International Maritime
Organization (IMO), in a joint statement, expressed
their grave concern about the increase in attacks on
satellite communications that interfere with the
telecommunications for air and sea transport. Yes
in fact, multiply - specified the three agencies of the
United Nations - cases of interference that come in the form of
jamming and spooling attacks that disrupt the systems of
GNSS global satellite navigation and navigation systems
regional satellite RNSS.
With the statement, the ITU, ICAO and IMO urge Member States
to protect the RNSS from harmful interference affecting
civilian and humanitarian operations, to strengthen the resilience of
Dependent navigation, positioning and synchronisation systems
RNSS, to maintain conventional navigation infrastructure
for emergencies, to improve collaboration between the
regulatory authorities, judicial authorities
and authorities in the air transport, transport and transport sectors
and to implement efficient mechanisms to
the signaling of interferences.
"The safety of seafarers and maritime transport -
underlined the Secretary General of the IMO, Arsenio Dominguez -
based on the resilience of secure systems to support the
navigation and communication. Interference with the
global satellite navigation pose a serious risk to
maritime transport activities, which could cause
collisions and groundings. I urge all Member States to take action
to protect these critical systems."
