
In the first quarter of 2025, the Port of Long Beach
set a new record for this time of year,
while the other main Californian port of call of Los
Angeles, while totaling substantial volumes of cargoes
containerized, has reached a total that, relative to the first
quarter, is lower than those marked in 2022 and 2021.
In the period January-March of this year, the port of Long Beach
handled a total of 2.53 million TEUs, with a
growth of +26.6% over the same period in 2024. Handling
of full containers on disembarkation and that of empty containers have
both reached record levels for this time of year
having stood at 1.22 million TEUs (+27.5%) and 1.02 million TEUs
TEU (+33.4%). Shipments of full containers amounted to
293 thousand TEUs (+4.9%).
In the first three months of 2025, the Port of Los Angeles
handled a total traffic of 2.50 million TEUs (+5.2%),
of which 1.28 million full TEUs at landing (+4.3%), 345 thousand full TEUs
at boarding (-14.5%) and 876 thousand empty TEUs (+17.4%).

This year, the Port of Los Angeles Chief Operating Officer, Gene
Seroka, announced that in the second half of the year a
decrease of at least -10% over the same period of 2024 in
consideration of the impact of the duties applied and those
announced by the U.S. government and counter-tariffs introduced
by the nations affected by the new American trade tariffs.
