T-Link di Navigazione Spa has suspended the execution of the ro-pax service between the ports of Genoa (Voltri) and Termini Imerese in exactly two years since the line is the only shipping link operated by the company.
Recalling that in this period the airline has carried more than 130 thousand and 85 thousand passenger vehicles decongestion of road traffic in urban centers of Sicily and the Ligurian capital, attracting new flows of traffic and revitalizing the port of Termini Imerese, Sicily's industrial heart waiting for redemption, T-Link said the decision to suspend the shipping links has been forced by the economic environment and market.
The shipping company revealed that it ensured a competitive service and quality of resources dealing with young people daily involved constant attention to customers and have generated direct employment of new staff on board and land for approximately sixty activating also indirect employment directly attributable to service for at least 150 additional resources.
"Despite T-Link has created an alternative market in a segment dominated by a monopolist, the attractiveness of the service has made T-Link in a short time a major player in the context of coastal medium and long distance to and from Sicily, and its recent history is linked to a progressive and significant increase in volumes transported - said the company - today the continuation of the market was flawed and conflicted, which adds a further significant increase in fuel costs, makes need for such drastic action by the governing body and members. The suspension of service by T-Link also fits into a broader context of the sector in which you are registering a significant increase in the concentration on the Tyrrhenian routes, even following the recent completion of the merger between operators and SNAV GNV (of 2 May 2011, ed).
T-Link has also stressed that the company "in less than two years has undergone - and emerge the winner - complaints to obtaining the outage, had to apply to the TAR Liguria - which has given reason - in order to perform the service passengers on the port of Voltri, had to turn to the competition authority and the market and, therefore, the Court of Palermo in relation to a market environment that, in our opinion, was and is still characterized by serious distortions of competition ' .
"Always with determination and passion, and with the support of our customers - said T-Link - we have carried out this difficult challenge. Unfortunately, however, the situation gradually degradatasi does not guarantee continuity of service, which therefore will be suspended with immediate effect and until further communications possible. "
T-Link is controlled by private equity fund Cape Region of Sicily and is owned by Caronte & Tourist SpA, Moby Spa, Aelle Investment Ltd and Oxon Costa Romeo and Srl (Conti).
