Last year, accidents in the maritime sector decreased by 2.9% over the previous year. Between 2009 and 2010 - has announced the ex-Ipsema, the pension fund for the maritime sector which is merged nell'Inail - the maritime industry has insured with the institution rather substantial decrease in accidents at the place work: the work-related accidents last year totaled 1,268, almost entirely (97%) occurring on board ship, the remaining 3% of commuting accidents.
The institute has shown that the data confirm the trend of steady decline in accidents in the maritime sector in the last ten years: between the beginning and end of period, in fact, accidents were reduced by about one quarter, rising from 1,693 to 1,268 events.
By examining the distribution of events by category of vessels, passengers category - with over half the cases - is one in which last year was counted as many accidents occurred on the 1,227 total in the workplace. The category with the category of passengers and cargo to the fishing sector accounts for more than 86% of the events that occurred in 2010. From the point of view of the variation in the number of accidents over the previous year is the category that passengers should be paid attention: in fact, if you ignore the category of craft that has small size and is therefore more subject to random fluctuations - has explained the institute - the passenger sector is the only one in which there is a decrease of events, moreover, with a relatively high percentage (8.7%).
The share of injuries borne by the female staff did not vary much from year to year and in 2010 was 2.6%. These are the categories of passengers and the craft to make record almost the entire number of accidents among female staff, whose work in the maritime world is still largely tied to the ship dedicated to passenger transport / tourism.
The average age of injured males in 2010 was equal to 42 years, while for females to 34.7 years. For about 95% of 2010 injuries have affected sea of Italian nationality, the remaining share to 72% is made up of maritime Tunisian (45%), which are present almost exclusively in the fisheries sector, and workers of nationality Romania (27%).
Almost 68% of the fatal cases reported in the last ten years have occurred in the fisheries sector, followed by long-distance load category (14.1%). With reference to 2010, among seafarers whose protection insurance is borne by the former Ipsema occurred five fatalities, three of which occurred in the workplace, the other two in the pipeline. The three events that occurred on board in 2010 all belong to the fisheries sector, a sector that year confirms its risks, especially because of the shipwrecks that endanger the lives of the entire crew.
In 2010 the former Ipsema has insured against accidents and occupational diseases, the crews of nearly 7,000 boats / ships on behalf of about 4,900 shipping companies. The majority of ships insured approximately 47%, has been involved in the fishery, conducted mainly along the continental coasts and islands in Italian at a distance not exceeding twenty miles, the so-called coastal fisheries. Both units insured shipping companies that were up slightly, 1.4% and 1.5% respectively compared to 2009. The volume of contributions established in 2010 has reached the 85.2 million euro, with an overall increase of 2.1% over the previous year. These contributions go to cover expenses due to accidents and occupational diseases, but also a host of other performance specifications provided by the institution, such as the temporary inability to navigation. The contributions found for the disease and maternity insurance in 2010 totaled 33.1 million euros, an increase compared to 2009, by 2.2%.
