After the meeting with the government on critical issues in the port of Gioia Tauro, which occurred Tuesday in Rome ( of 5 July 2011), the president of the Calabria Region, Giuseppe Scopelliti, met the president of Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), Gianluigi Aponte, with the aim to discuss the consolidation of the group owner in the Calabrian port of Geneva.
During the meeting with Aponte, held in the group's headquarters in Geneva, attended by the vice-president of the regional Antonella Stasi and the number two of the MSC Diego Aponte - Scopelliti said - laid the groundwork for an agreement collaboration, to be developed over time, between the Calabria Region and the MSC group aimed at further development of the port of Gioia Tauro and was discussed extensively on the modalities and timing of the collaboration.
The MSC group - said the president of the Calabria region - has shown its willingness to invest in the development of the Calabrian port, triggering a series of strategic operations for the entire territory. Many issues were discussed extensively by highlighting the centrality of Gioia Tauro and the importance of the logistics center. In addition, attention was focused on transshipment also to safeguard jobs and, on this aspect, we have formulated several hypotheses, and collaborative work.
Scopelliti said the parties are meeting for a new table for comparison and showed that MSC finally pursue his interest in collaboration with the Region of Calabria in the name of "patriotic value of a" distinct and heard throughout the group.
