  • Year of the newbuild
THE FACE OF GREEK SHIPPING is being changed through a massive ordering spree by the country's shipowners. More than 200 ships worth in excess of $8bn have been ordered in the last year making 1999 the "Year of the Newbuild" for Greeks. With 10% of the world orderbook, the old image of Greeks as operators of secondhand tonnage is having to be rethought.
