In the first half of this year container traffic in the port of Barcelona has exceeded one million TEUs, an increase of 18% compared to around 900 thousand containers handled in the first half of 2010.
The Port Authority of Barcelona stressed as the substantial increase in container traffic is mainly due to efforts by companies to expand their reach into foreign markets and strengthen its presence in international markets and how this commitment is evidenced by the good performance of exports through the port Catalan until the month of June grew 18%. The general cargo traffic amounted to 14.7 million tons (+11%).The handling of new car factory was 329,531 units (+15%).
