Port Newark Container Terminal (PNCT), a subsidiary of terminal operator Ports America, which is owned by the investment company Highstar Capital, will invest $ 500 million to upgrade its Port Newark Container Terminal in the port of New York - New Jersey .
The project includes in particular the expansion of the terminal on 100 acres and also an increase in the volume of containers handled annually by ships with the touch of the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) with the aim to grow from the current 414,000 TEUs to 1, 1 million TEUs of containers in 2030.
The project was officially launched yesterday in the presence of the governor of New Jersey, Chris Christie, who stressed the positive impact of the employment by creating about 800 new direct jobs (including 350 in construction) to which will add another 1,450 jobs in the region.
"This - said the director of the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey, Christopher Ward - is good news for both the port and the economy of the region. It means more goods, more jobs and ensure a leading world-class customer to our port and allow the Port of New York and New Jersey to remain the main hub of the East Coast and more competitive. "
