
Due to a more pronounced reduction in traffic
in the second quarter of this year, equal to about -4%
over the same period in 2025, which followed a decline in
-2% in the previous quarter, the Port of Hamburg closed the first
half of 2026 with a decrease of -3.1% in traffic
total of goods compared to the first half of last year
year having handled a total of 56.1 million
tons of cargo. In the container sector alone, traffic
half-yearly report, amounting to less than 40 million tonnes, marked a
decrease of -3.7% and was achieved with a
handling of containers equal to 4.0 million TEUs (-3.7%), with
marked increases in flows with Singapore (+13.1%), Finland
(+24.7%) and India (+7.2%) and a sharp reduction of -13.5% in the
containerized traffic with the USA, with decreases also in flows with
China and the United Kingdom. Conventional freight traffic, with
535 thousand tons, marked a decrease of -5.0% on the first
semester of 2025. In the bulk sector, the following were handled
15.9 million tonnes (-1.1%), of which four million tonnes
tonnes of liquid bulk (-14.0%) and 11.9 million tonnes
of dry bulk (+4.2%).
